My second showing of my latest exhibition, ๐˜ฅ๐˜ข๐˜บ๐˜ญ๐˜ช๐˜จ๐˜ฉ๐˜ต, ๐˜ฅ๐˜ข๐˜บ๐˜ญ๐˜ช๐˜จ๐˜ฉ๐˜ต, opened on Monday, April 3rd, 2023 at GALLERY SSAM.ย  A big thank you to Cultural Event Planning GooRhm who connected me with GALLERY SSAMโฃ and made this second showing a meaningful time for Nari SEEN as we collected donations for her Leukemia treatment. We were able to screen Nari’s original documentary, The Rust, and hold a truly warm exchange with those who were in attendance for the artist talk on April 9th.

Ilgwang (์ผ๊ด‘) in Busan, South Korea and Nikko in Japan share the same Chinese character (ๆ—ฅๅ…‰), which roughly translates to โ€œdaylightโ€. Japanese companies ran copper mines in both cities of the same name. โฃDuring the period of Japanese occupation, some Koreans were relocated to work in Nikko or stayed to work in Ilgwang. โฃThe now deserted mine still stands as a living memory of labor exploitation amongst those who still live in the village.โฃ

These images were taken between 2019 and 2023 and inspired by Nari SEENโ€™s 2018 documentary entitled,ย ๐˜›๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ ๐˜™๐˜ถ๐˜ด๐˜ต.
