This exhibition will only be up for a week, but I am currently working to show this work again in Busan very soon. The collection can also be seen on my website.

Ilgwang (์ผ๊ด‘) in Busan, South Korea and Nikko in Japan share the same Chinese character (ๆ—ฅๅ…‰), which roughly translates to โ€œdaylight”. Japanese companies ran copper mines in both cities of the same name. โฃDuring the period of Japanese occupation, some Koreans were relocated to work in Nikko or stayed to work in Ilgwang. โฃThe now deserted mine still stands as a living memory of labor exploitation amongst those who still live in the village.โฃ

These images were taken between 2019 and 2023 and inspired by Nari SEENโ€™s 2018 documentary entitled, ๐˜›๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ ๐˜™๐˜ถ๐˜ด๐˜ต.
